Aalto University Scholarships: A Complete Guide
Aalto University, one of Europe's leading science and technology universities, has a well-funded scholarship programme for international master's students. Located in Espoo, just outside Helsinki, Aalto attracts highly competitive applicants from around the world.
Aalto University Scholarship (AUS)
The Aalto University Scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fee for outstanding non-EU/EEA students. Tuition at Aalto ranges from €12,000 to €15,000 per year depending on the programme. A full scholarship eliminates this cost entirely for two years.
Aalto Merit Scholarship
In addition to the tuition waiver, Aalto offers a separate merit scholarship of €10,000 paid in two instalments across the two-year programme. This is intended to partly cover living costs and is awarded to the most exceptional applicants.
How to Be Competitive
Aalto's acceptance rate for competitive programmes (Computer Science, Design, Business) is below 5%. Scholarship recipients typically have GPAs in the top 5–10% of their graduating class, strong letters of recommendation, relevant research or industry experience, and a compelling statement of purpose.
Autumn vs Spring Entry
Aalto accepts students for autumn entry only. The application period is typically from November to January. Early submission is strongly recommended as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis in some programmes.
Aalto Doctoral Programs
Doctoral positions at Aalto are fully funded with a monthly salary starting at €2,200. Aalto also participates in the Nordic Five Tech (N5T) alliance, giving doctoral students exchange opportunities at KTH, DTU, NTNU, and Chalmers.
